The Rev. Dr.
Michael Hughes comes to us from Kansas. In
January of 1982, Pastor Mike moved from Kansas to Sunnyside at
the urging of the Lord and an invitation from the church.
He graduated from the Kansas State Teacher's College at
Emporia, KS with a BA in Psychology and Social Science and an
MA in History. He graduated from Fuller Theological Seminary,
Pasadena, CA with an MDiv. in 1973. He received his Doctor of
Ministry from Fuller in 1994. Michael is married to Linda
since 1968 She also graduated from Emporia State (with a BSE
degree). She received her Masters in Education from Heritage
College and is a teacher with the Sunnyside School
District and they have three children: Pamela Rensch (husband Chris
and children Ariel and Jonah). They live in Snohomish, WA.
Timothy is married to Stacy (Schilperoort). Tim
graduated from Fuller in 2006 and was ordained in our church in
December 2006. He was installed as pastor of the First
Baptist Church, Port Angeles, WA in March,
07. Jonathan, is a Physical Therapy Assistant at
Complete Physical Therapy in Sunnyside. Michael enjoys photography
and hunting. Linda likes shopping for the kids and
grandchildren.

Meet our new Worship Leaders: Barry and
Elizabeth DeHaan!
Barry
and Elizabeth DeHaan, Midwest natives, moved to the Yakima Valley
this past summer from Alamosa, Colorado. They have two
children, Anna who is 3 and Sabas who is 16 months. Barry
teaches science at Sunnnyside Christian High School and Elizabeth is
a nurse and occasionally works at Memorial Hospital Hospice and
Sunnyside Hospital. Before they were married, Barry and
Elizabeth did quite a bit of world travel. Barry traveled to
Thailand and Ecuador and Elizabeth to Europe, New Zealand and
Ecuador, as well. Barry has held many different jobs before,
besides teaching, including being a Boy Scout executive, vaccine lab
research scientist, full time volunteer, carpenter and more.
Elizabeth did travel nursing for a few years around the U.S. before
getting married. They both enjoy biking, hikinng, camping,
swimming, sports and, of course, music. Barry and Elizabeth
have been involved in music their whole lives. Elizabeth
started by singing solos in church when she was only six. She
was very active in musid in her high school and in church while
growing up. She was involved in band, orchestra and choir in
college as well. Barry was also involved inchoir and band
during high school and took up the guitar during college. They
both have been active in numerour worship teams. They love the
Lord and believe they are called to do His work here in

Jim
Slinker is the Sunnyside YOUNG
LIFE Area Director and
a missionary with YUGO Ministries. He served in
Mexico with his family for 14
years as a Bible teacher and church planter, and came to
Sunnyside in 1999. Jim holds an M.A. in Christian Education from
Biola
University. His supporters have
graciously agreed to let him serve here in Sunnyside, where he also
volunteers as our Minister of Outreach Opportunities (Minister of
Moo). He is married to Kari (since 1972) and has four children:
Heather, (married to Wes Derby and living in
Everett), Heidi, (husband,
Alonso Sanábia and son, Isaac, living in Rosarito B.C.,
Mexico), Emily (17 yrs
old) and Ethan (14yrs.
old). Jim says he aims to minister especially to 2nd and
3rd generation Hispanics. He desires a church
“Doubly Alive Between Two Cultures”.
